Visitors to Colombia love the Black Sheep hostel because of its ideal location and friendly staff. The building blends in well with the scenic Patio Bonito neighborhood and has the ambiance of a home away from home.
Walk up the hill a couple of blocks from the Black Sheep and you will come to Poblado Avenue. Poblado Avenue is lined with restaurants, banks and shops. Some people save money by purchasing food from the grocery store on Poblado Avenue and cooking it in the kitchen at the Black Sheep. The Black Sheep is also close to the Metro, which will take you almost anywhere you need to go in Medellin.
Many of the Black Sheep staff members speak English. They'll help you find your way around and can make recommendations about interesting places to see. The Black Sheep has five internet connections, a common room with a big screen TV, Sunday barbecues and plenty of room for kicking back. Owner Kelvin is usually around in the mornings.
I recommend the Spanish in Medellin classes if you are trying to learn the language. My instructor Yadira was very knowledgeable and patient. I learned more Spanish in three sessions than I did in a semester of study in the US. And the classes are held right there on the patio at the Black Sheep – very convenient.
